"The student experience at Marian has shaped who I am. Thanks to small class sizes, I've built relationships with professors who've helped me become comfortable in professional settings, like my internship at Rolls Royce. I strongly believe the people skills I’ve gained at Marian will help me stand above others in my field."

Max Hartsough keeps busy. This summer he worked from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. as a student intern at Rolls Royce in Indianapolis. Before fall classes started, he completed training sessions to serve as a resident assistant in Clare Hall.

Now that the 2017-18 academic year is in full swing, Max is taking five classes, including three as part of Purdue鈥檚 undergraduate engineering program at IUPUI. He is also actively engaged in campus life.

As a Presidential Ambassador, Max attends a range of on- and off-campus events hosted by Marian and attended by alumni, parents, donors, and friends of the university. As a resident assistant, he is responsible for supervising his peers who live in Claire Hall, where he helps ensure safety and security policies are followed and advises students who have questions or concerns.

鈥淢y favorite part of being a student at Marian is that I鈥檝e gotten to know so many people on a personal level. Marian鈥檚 campus has a real sense of community and belonging that helps all students succeed,鈥 Max said about his student experience.

When he graduates in 2019, Max will have two degrees: One in math and one in engineering. Majors in both fields are in demand, so Max will have plenty of career options to explore.

鈥淩ight now, my career goal is to pursue full-time employment at Rolls Royce after I graduate. I really enjoyed learning more about their operations during my internship and I want to continue living and working in my home state.鈥

Max鈥檚 internship involved helping to update an inventory system within the plant where he worked. 鈥淚 was able to meet a lot of people working in different departments who had a range of talents. Even as an intern, everyone at Rolls Royce treated me well and wanted to know about me and what I wanted to do after graduation. My experience was very positive, and I feel like the aerospace industry will be a good fit for me.鈥

With three facilities in Indianapolis, Rolls Royce manufactures more products in Indiana鈥檚 state capital than anywhere else in the world. The company specializes in small and medium engines used in civil defense vehicles as well as marine, helicopter, and jet engines for national defense and the U.S. military.

Employment prospects in central Indiana are among the nation鈥檚 strongest. Indianapolis is home to hundreds of major employers in business sectors like biosciences, pharmaceuticals, logistics and distribution, and advanced manufacturing of durable goods.

We look forward to following Max after he graduates and wish him much success in his future endeavors.
