DPT Admissions

Admissions Criteria

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµAPK’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (MU DPT) Programs seeks to attract individuals who are called to a career of service, who are intellectually curious, and who are committed to collaboration and excellence.

Using a holistic approach, the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµAPK Health Professions Enrollment Team and DPT faculty will review application materials to gauge alignment between an applicant’s characteristics and interests and the MU DPT program’s mission.

DPT Prerequisites

Human Anatomy & Human Physiology, with Labs 2 courses, 6-8 credits One-year sequence combining human anatomy and physiology (6-8 credits), or single courses in human anatomy and human physiology (3-4 credits).
General Chemistry, with Labs 2 courses, 6-8 credits Standard one-year sequence
General Physics, with Labs 2 courses, 6-8 credits Standard one-year sequence
Statistics 1 course, 3 credits Introductory course. Can be taken through math, science, or psychology
Psychology 1 course, 3 credits Introductory psychology, abnormal psychology, or developmental psychology

DPT Application Process Requirements

Primary Application

Prospective students will submit their application for the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµAPK DPT Program through the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service (PTCAS) at

Clinical Experience

No observation hours are required for application to the DPT Program at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµAPK.

Applicants will be required to list and/or describe personal accomplishments and leadership experiences in the PTCAS system, including:

  • Employment and/or college athletics
  • Research experience and dissemination
  • Extracurricular and service activities
  • Leadership positions

Testing

Standardized testing (GRE) is not required for the DPT program application.

Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation are required for the DPT application.

  • One recommendation must be from a licensed physical therapist
  • One recommendation must be from a college-level course instructor, recent employer, or health care professional
  • Recommendations should not be completed by family or friends
  • Letters of Recommendation will be submitted via PTCAS

Transcripts

Official transcripts from all undergraduate institutions attended are required for submission through PTCAS.

Applicants must earn a baccalaureate degree from a CHEA and USDE-approved college or university prior to matriculation into the DPT program.

Personal Statement

Supplementary Marian Essay questions are added to the PTCAS system and considered in the admissions process.

Interview

  • Applicants will be selected for an interview based on assessment of eligibility and application materials.
  • Individual applicants will be scheduled for a 30-minute virtual interview with at least one DPT faculty member. A second interviewer may be from the MU Health Professions Enrollment Team, current students, alumni, or clinical partners.

Withdrawal Scenarios

  • Intentional misrepresentation or omission of information on any form relevant to admissions or records will subject the student to withdrawal of acceptance or dismissal if enrolled.
  • The DPT Program reserves the right to deny admission to any applicant for any reason deemed sufficient. Matriculation will be denied to applicants who have failed to maintain academic performance commensurate with the admissions guidelines and/or a good record of personal conduct between the time of their acceptance and their matriculation.
