Sport Psychology Concentration

The Sport Psychology Concentration helps to prepare students to pursue a career in which he or she applies knowledge of the psychological and mental factors that influence and are influenced by participation and performance in sport, exercise, and physical activity. Psychological factors such as personality, anxiety, and goal setting are examined as they relate to athletic performance and exercise adherence. The psychological, social, and physiological bases of athletic participation and exercise as well as applied skills such as assessment, research literacy, oral and written communication, coaching, and performance interventions are emphasized.

Career Preparation

Graduates with this concentration have gone into fields such as:

  • Counseling
  • Rehabilitation psychology
  • Sport psychology
  • Sport and exercise science
  • Athletic training
